Connect two PC via Lan cable to share data

How to connect two PC via Lan cable to share data ?

Primary requirement of sharing data on network is the devices must be in the same network (Those who do not understand networks and simply want to transfer data, follow the steps below without bothering what is happening. Although I highly recommend having basic knowledge of networks).

First of all, you have to turn off windows firewall from both the PCs.

PC - 1

  1. Right click on the Network icon on bottom right and click on "Open Network and sharing center". Alternatively, you can select Network Connections from control panel under Network and Internet heading.
  2. From the window that appears, in the left pane choose, "Change Adapter settings".

  3. A new window appears, right click on "Local Area Connection" and select properties.
  4. In the Networking tab double click Internet Protocol Version 4(TCP/IPv4).
  5. Then, click on the Use the following IP address radio button if not already selected.

  6. Enter the IP address 10.0.0.10 (Please note that this is not the only IP address that will work you can use any IP address, However if you do not understand IP address either click here to know about it or just follow the steps) and Subnet mask - 255.0.0.0 and click OK.

PC-2

1. Follow the same steps as described for PC-1 except the 6th step .
2. You just have to use a different IP address - 10.0.0.11 (Again it can be something else as well, if you understand what to  use)

3. Connect your PCs via LAN cable, Open Network (Search for Network in start if you do not find it on desktop icons ) on your PC you will see the name of other PC.
4. Double click it you will be asked to enter Username(for some cases those who have logged on using their outlook account, their outlook email will be the Username) and Password of the other PC,provide the correct information and you are in !!!
(Share the folders in PC-2 which you want to copy in PC-1, you will see those folders once you access PC-2 in your PC).

NOTE:
  1. If this is not working please check the windows firewall settings, it is supposed to be off for data transfer.
  2. Most Importantly the PCs must have password enabled, otherwise this won't work.
  3. Files can not be shared directly, you have to store them in a folder - right click the folder choose the share with option and you can choose to share with everyone.
